PhD for International Students

Application Portal

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata, one of the leading Indian research institutes, is now admitting international students for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in the fields of Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physical Sciences. The PhD programme is an introduction to cutting edge research in both theoretical as well as experimental sciences.


How to Apply

International students can apply via two streams:

  1. One may directly apply through the 'IISER Kolkata applications portal'.
  2. One may also apply through the 'Study in India' Programme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development

Eligibility:

Only foreign nationals can apply. At the time of admission, the applicants must have a Master's degree in science with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.

Application Process:

The application should include details of nationality, department to which applying, subject of research interest, Curriculum Vitae, and the names and e-mail addresses of two referees (teachers or thesis supervisors at the master's level who can give letters of recommendation).

Scans of the first and last pages of passport, academic tract record, and transcripts have to be submitted as attachments.

Selection:

There will be a shortlisting based on academic credentials. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed online.

Funding:

Ten PhD Fellowships are available to international students. Eligible students with receive a fellowship of INR 25,000/- per month for the first two years, and INR 28,000/- per month for the next three years. This amount is sufficient to cover all expenses.

ICCR Scholarship

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on behalf Government of India offers scholarships and fellowships to international students wishing to study in India in various programs and disciplines. For more information refer to the link: Click Here

General Instructions:

  1. Please have your picture (soft copy, preferably in JPG or PNG format) ready.
  2. Scanned copy of First and Last page of the Passport.
  3. Scanned copy of Curriculum Vitae.
  4. Scanned copy of Academic Document, Transcript
  5. E-mail addresses of two referees (teachers or thesis supervisors at the master's level who can give letters of recommendation)
  6. You must complete your application. Incomplete application will be rejected.
