The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research Kolkata was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in the year 2006. The basic mandate of the IISERs is to provide quality science education and to carry out research in basic and frontier areas of science involving both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Through borderless and flexible education programmes, IISERs provide an opportunity for young students to experience the excitements of research in science. In essence, IISERs are devoted to both teaching and research in an integrated manner – thus nurturing both curiosity and creativity.

IISER Kolkata has well-trained, committed, and dedicated faculty members to take the Institute to greater heights in the coming years. With 101 regular faculty, 660 BS-MS students, 140 Integrated PhD students, 258 PhD students and 92 non-teaching staff members, IISER Kolkata is vibrant with academic activities.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata invites application from Indian nationals, who are dynamic with strong motivation and a flair for teaching and research for the posts of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors in the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics and Physical Science. IISER Kolkata encourages interdisciplinary research, where members of Faculty can have primary affiliation to one department and be associated with other department of their choice.

Minimum Qualification (for all faculty positions): PhD with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades, etc.) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record throughout (also see in notes below). In addition, for:


Professor: 10 years teaching/research/industrial experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor.

Associate Professor: 6 years teaching/research/industrial experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent.

Assistant Professor: 3 years of teaching/research/industrial experience, excluding the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D. Fresh Ph.D students with bright and outstanding credential will be considered for Assistant Professor on contract basis for a period of 3 years and may be regularized based on satisfactory performance.


Application forms for all the above positions can be downloaded, or can be obtained from the office of the Dean of Faculty, on request. Applications may be submitted to the Dean of Faculty Affairs, IISER Kolkata, Mohanpur-741 246, Dist. Nadia, West Bengal, INDIA as per Institute format. At least three reference letters from persons well acquainted with candidate's work are essential for consideration of candidature. The applications received will be processed at regular intervals which will be based on the qualifications of the candidates and the need of the department concerned. The expected date of interview will be published in the website just 15 days before the interview. Candidates have to ensure that reference letters by post/fax/email at least 1 week before the date of interview for consideration of their application. Electronic copies of the application and/ or reports from the referees will be considered only on receipt of hard copies of the application.
The details of pay scale admissible at the time of joining are as follows:

Professor Rs. 10,500/- PB-4: 37400-67000 Rs. 48,000/- The pay carries all other allowances as admissible to a Central Government employee stationed at IISER Kolkata.
Associate Professor Rs. 9,500/- PB-4: 37400-67000 Rs. 42,800/-
Assistant Professor
Rs. 8,000/- Rs. 9,000/-* PB-3: 15600-39100 Rs. 30,000/-
Assistant Professor (on Contract)
Rs. 6,000/- + 7 non compounded advance increments, after 1 year the AGP will be increased to Rs. 7,000/- PB-3: 15600-39100 Rs. 20,140/-


* Assistant Professors in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai and IISERs, on completion of three years of service shall move to Pay Band 4 (Rs.37,400-67000/-) with AGP of Rs. 9,000/- and will, however, continue to be designated as Assistant Professor


Following fringe benefits are also available for the faculty members as per the Institute norms:
  1. LTC, medical re-imbursement, education allowance for children, contribution towards New Pension Scheme (NPS), re-imbursement of telephone bills.
  2. Cumulative professional development allowance (CPDA) of Rs. 3.0 lakhs for period of 3 years may be available to every member of the faculty to meet the expenses for participating in both National and International Conferences and contingency expenses.
  3. Reimbursement of Relocation charges: upto maximum relocation expenses of Rs. 1.25 lakhs or actual whichever is less from abroad and the admissible amount as per TA on Transfer Rules of Govt. of India for others.
  4. State-of-the-art equipments for teaching and research.
  5. Attractive start up and matching research grants.
  6. Computers and accessories, stationeries and books, consumables and minor equipments, travel support for academic visits and collaborative works, etc. as a part of the Academic Research Fund.
  

Note for Submission of Applications:
  1. Applicants who are employed in Government, Semi-Government Organizations or Institutions should send their applications THROUGH PROPER CHANNEL else they will be required to produce a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from their employer at the time of interview.
  2. Mere fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned herein may not entitle a candidate to be called for interview. Institute reserves the right to fix higher criteria for short-listing of applications for recruitment.
  3. The Institute reserves the right to consider to fill or not to fill positions in any of the above/ and or any other specialization(s)/ Department(s). The Institute has the right to set different as well as higher norms, while short-listing, taking into account the specific requirement of the individual departments.
  4. Applicants who do not fulfill the minimum experience requirements but have performed very well in the interview may be offered an appointment on contract. The requirements of minimum qualification and/or experience may be relaxed in the case of candidates with outstanding credentials.
  5. Reservations at entry level will be applicable as per G.O.I norms.
  6. The Institute reserves the right to withdraw any advertised post(s) at any time without assigning any reason.
  7. Applicant not found suitable for higher positions may be considered for lower positions in the same area of specialization. Higher initial pay may be considered in case of exceptionally qualified and deserving candidates.
  8. Candidates called for and appearing in interview will be paid First Class/Second AC. Railway fare from place of duty or the nearest Railway Station from the residence to IISER Kolkata and back by the shortest route.
  9. No information will be sent to those candidates who are not short listed for interview.
  10. The Rolling Interview is a continuous process and will continue as per the requirement of the Department and also as per availability of the posts. Applications will be received throughout the year.
